Harvest Service 2011

We celebrated Harvest, here at St. John’s, on Sunday 18th September.
The theme of our service was
 Creation and Our Creator.

We were reminded that traditionally, at Harvest, we would bring baskets of fruit and other fresh produce to thank God for the bounty of his creation. However, this year, we were encouraged, instead of bringing food, to contribute to TEARFUND. This was so that we, who, by the grace of God, have so much, might share with our brothers and sisters across the world who have so much less than we do.

Through the creation story in the Bible (see Genesis chapter 1), we were reminded that we had been created in God’s image and that we had been given responsibility for the earth - indeed for all creation.

During the service people were encouraged to spot, and collect, key images, from where they had been dispalyed around the church, to help reinforce the message. Needless to say it was mainly the youngsters who responded to this challenge - often having to move from one end of the church to the other and back in order to locate these pictures!

Note: The Harvest service raised £361.87 for Tearfund - well done everybody!
