Visit from Farnborough Road Infants (Year 1) 2012

Once again the "Year 1" children from Farnborough Road Infant School visited St. John's in pursuance of their RE curriculum.
They were welcomed by Sally-Ann and Christine told them about the church furniture and artefacts including the stained glass windows.
She encouraged the children to notice that the emblem on their sweat shirts and jackets was the same as that on the glass doors of the church.  Christine told the children that the church was opened before Farnborough Road Schools existed, adding that the first school here was St. John's School on the corner of Sandon Road.  She went on to explain that the emblem of St. John was then taken by the school when it got too large for the original site and moved to Farnborough Road.  [The irony is that, when the glass doors were installed here in recent years, no emblem could be found.  So the artist etched the design on the doors using an old Farnborough Road blazer badge as a model.]

Next, John told the children about the organ and demonstrated its range.

Finally the children were allowed to look around and investigate the church.

The organ was very popular and, don't tell anyone but, John allowed them to play it!

The children found eagles in a number of places including on the old font ...

...and the lectern.
Other popular items were the pulpit and the "new" font.

Very soon it was time to go!
We hope the children enjoyed their visit - we certainly enjoyed having them!
