For the Soup Kitchen

Remember the “Eagles Car Wash”?  Well, Rachel reports what happened on 26th September as follows:-

The total raised by the Eagles at the car wash has now risen to an amazing £600.
On Thursday the Eagles presented Justin and Jill from The Southport Soup Kitchen with  -

2 microwaves, 30 sleeping bags, 30 pans, 10 sets of cutlery, a bag of biscuits and a cheque.

Justin was amazed at all we had bought and told us what a huge difference it will make to the lives of so many people struggling in Southport.

Once again thanks to everyone who supported the Eagles and helped to make a difference to peoples lives.

Well done everybody and thank you, Rachel, for all the hard work you do for The Eagles!

Eagles’ Car Wash 2013

I am sorry not to have been there but I’m sure that the Southport Soup Kitchen will be delighted with your Efforts, Eagles.  Well done to you all and “thank you” to Rachel for sending me the following:-

On 14th September the Eagles held their annual car wash and afternoon cream teas. The sun was shining (for a change on car wash day) and seven 'eager' Eagles and three less eager men were all ready with their buckets and sponges to wash cars.

It was a very slow start but the Tatlock's car got extra special attention before one or two more cars arrived. In total they washed 12 cars and everyone went away happy with their cars cleaned.

In the hall Debbie and Rachel served cream teas to folk as they waited for their cars to be cleaned and we were assured the teas were delicious.

A HUGE thank you to Dave, Martin and Graham who supervised the car washing and as usual to Jane for making us such lovely scones.

We raised an impressive £400 which will be spent on two microwaves to be used in the soup kitchen and sleeping bags which will be handed out to those sleeping rough in Southport.

The Eagles would like to thank everyone who supported them and their fundraising efforts.

Christmas Parties 2012

On Friday 14th December Friday GAP joined with Sunday Gap for their Christmas Party at Pizza Hut!

The children could choose their food and then use the leaflets provided to colour in and solve the puzzles.

After the salads and main courses, the ice creams that the children decorated were very popular!

Everybody went home with a goody bag.  All the helpers were very impressed by how well all the children behaved.

A good time was had by one and all.

Then, the following evening, The Eagles had their party in the church hall.

Rachel reported,

“We enjoyed Andy's wonderful Christmas dinner followed by our own ice cream factory.
We started the evening by trying to complete jigsaws of famous buildings. There were hundreds of pieces and the Eagles had to find the pieces they needed from a large selection. Only Abbie and Emma were able to complete two jigsaws so they won the prize. Next we played pin the tail on the donkey, pass the parcel and the hat game.
Who would believe a group of teenagers would enjoy a game of pass the parcel so much. We finished with our secret santa presents and our traditional game of Charades.”

[I have to comment that, in our family, “pass the parcel” is enjoyed by people well into their 60s!]

Eagles' Quiz Night

On the evening of Friday 5th October the Eagles’ hosted a Quiz Night to raise funds for our mission partners, Andy and Rosie and their work with street children in Brazil.

It was an extremely enjoyable and highly entertaining evening.

The questions ranged from General knowledge  through Music and Top 50 brands to Film and T.V.   In the end the very competitive “Quick Exit” team won with a very impressive score of 100 (out of a possible 117) points!

In spite of having challenged what they considered to have been a breach in “the rules” earlier in the evening and having competed with more team members than “the rules” allowed, “Quick Exit” were magnanimous in victory and generously shared their prize (of Heroes chocolates) with everyone in the room.

In addition to the quiz the Eagles’ also ran a raffle with a number of winners ....

.... including Chris, John, Nat, Wendy and Jean!

Altogether the Eagles raised £173.

Well done Eagles!  Also a very big “Thank you” to Rachel and Andy for all their hard work!

Eagles Car Wash 2012

Following the recent visit of our mission partners, Andy and Rose, the Eagles decided to hold their annual "Car Wash" and cream tea in aid of ReVive (see the recent blog entry "A visit from Andy and Rose").

They say "the sun shines on the righteous" so the Eagles must be doing something right as,after a decidedly dodgy morning, the sun came out soon after the "Car Wash" began at 1.00 p.m.

Dave, Shaun, and Tim coaxed, encouraged and cajoled the Eagles....

.... into power washing, ....

..... shampooing, ....

.... rinsing ....

.... and polishing the many cars that turned up for the event.

There was also a delicious "Cream tea" served by Michelle, Rachel and Sue and an enticing raffle.  So, it wasn't difficult to spend your money, and all in an excellent cause!

Altogether the Eagles, their helpers and their supporters, raised over £1029  for ReVive.

Well done everybody!
