Eagles' Quiz Night

On the evening of Friday 5th October the Eagles’ hosted a Quiz Night to raise funds for our mission partners, Andy and Rosie and their work with street children in Brazil.

It was an extremely enjoyable and highly entertaining evening.

The questions ranged from General knowledge  through Music and Top 50 brands to Film and T.V.   In the end the very competitive “Quick Exit” team won with a very impressive score of 100 (out of a possible 117) points!

In spite of having challenged what they considered to have been a breach in “the rules” earlier in the evening and having competed with more team members than “the rules” allowed, “Quick Exit” were magnanimous in victory and generously shared their prize (of Heroes chocolates) with everyone in the room.

In addition to the quiz the Eagles’ also ran a raffle with a number of winners ....

.... including Chris, John, Nat, Wendy and Jean!

Altogether the Eagles raised £173.

Well done Eagles!  Also a very big “Thank you” to Rachel and Andy for all their hard work!

Parish Quiz Night – Saturday 25th April 2009

Thanks go to Geoffrey for organising an entertaining evening which was enjoyed by four fantastic teams! [Note: dictionary definition of fantastic – extravagantly fanciful, eccentric; quaint.] Thanks also to Quiz Master Chris for all the hard work he put into compiling the questions and his restraint in the face of the unwarranted flak he received on the night!

There were three teams and a collection of random people competing for they knew not what until the end of the evening! The teams represented (officially or unofficially) the Eagles, the Choir and senior members of the Guiding Association. The unaffiliated competitors formed themselves into a team called “The Odd Balls” as they didn’t have time to think up anything better!

At half time The Odd Balls and The Song Birds were in the lead. However, in the second half the Eagles team made a Herculean effort – excelling in the “Food and Drink” and “Film and T.V.” rounds to pip the choral team at the post!! However, none of them were able to catch up with The Odd Balls who were the ultimate winners. [Is this evidence that people representing a range of ages and interests can be more effective than a more homogeneous team?]

Congratulations "Odd Balls" - Alf, Carl, Donna, Diane, Martin, and Sal!

P.S. During the interval everybody enjoyed delicious and substantial “light refreshments”! Thanks to Judith and her team for those!
